On reflection…

I like to arrive early on the wedding day. It gives me time to settle in and become a fly on the wall. The more I can blend in, the less people notice me and I can then go about taking documentary wedding pictures which look completely natural. These are the moments brides will remember many years from now. They’ll remember the emotion of the day from images like this far more than those posed formal shots.
When prospective brides come to me and say they just want me to start from the church and they don’t need me for the bridal and groom prep, I politely tell them, I’m not their wedding photographer and I’ll recommend someone else. It’s so important that we become a good fit. For couples that want a full document of their wedding day, without the photographer getting in the way but allowing him to discretely film what unfolds – Well those are my couples.
Pictures like this take a lot of trust between the bride and photographer. Rebecca allowed me full access on her day to capture the emotion of the day fully. This was photographed by observing the reflection in the wardrome as she was getting ready. I love the colour and composition. Almost abstract, yet very real in the moment.
