I wrote a tongue in cheek article a while ago called “we don’t do formals Ma’am”

It was essentially to underline how absolutely essential we believe formals are in any wedding. Your wedding is a rare opportunity to gather the entire family together, sometimes from all over the world, to all be in one photograph which will be handed on to the next generation.

All I ask is that you try and keep the number of formals down to a manageable level on the day. This way we can take the time and effort to make the pictures look good as well as allow time for your guest to enjoy your wedding day rather than just stand around waiting for formals.

We also try and shoot necessary formals in ways which will be interesting on the eye and photograph them throughout the day in stages. The Bridesmaids for example can be done before the ceremony as can the groomsmen. (Often we do this outside the church)

This picture of the groomsmen was set up outside the groom’s home just before leaving for the ceremony. Notice how the guys are carefully placed, with a 1 Cick Photography trademark – Backlighting for drama (from the tungston light in the Hall) – Then we just add a little fun to the mix. In this way, there’s a seemingly documentary element to what is traditionally a straight ‘formal’.

I love informal looking ‘formals’. To capture a ‘moment’ like this is magical. These will make the groom smile many years from now.
